Isaac G. Burnet letters to Jonathan Rhea, 1793-1813.

Consists of seven autograph letters signed, dated 2 November 1805 to 29 January 1813 from Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, from Isaac G. Burnet to Jonathan Rhea of Trenton, New Jersey, largely discussing land dealings in Ohio and matters both personal and financial. Both lawyers, Burnet was serving as Rhea's land agent in Ohio and Rhea was looking after Burnet's affairs in New Jersey. In the letter dated 7 February 1807 from Cincinnati Burnet comments at length on the Burr conspiracy, denouncing James Wilkinson "as accomplished a villian as ever lived" while opining that Burr had no "designs inimical to his country." In the letter of 29 January 1813 Burnet sends assurances that Captain James Rhea's (Jonathan's brother) conduct during the Siege of Fort Wayne was not cowardly according to a conversation he had with Indian Agent Benjamin Stickney. Burnet goes on to criticize William Henry Harrison's handling of the situation, declaring that "he is all precipitation, he thinks too little ever to be a great man." Collection also includes one autograph letter signed, dated March 1793, from Daniel Hendrickson to Jonathan Rhea about a financial matter.
